Climate Large parts of Guatemala are very mountainous and the climate depends much more on altitude than on where you are at what time. While there are some areas with a tropical climate, there are others where night time temperatures can drop below freezing. Guatemala can be divided into three climate zones that have very distinct characteristics. The lower zone Between sea level and 1,000 meters, the climate of the lowlands is tropical, i.e. hot and humid day and night, year round. Daytime temperatures are maxium 40°C minimum 20° C year round. The mid zone From 1,000 meters to 2,000 meters daytime temperatures rarely exceed 30° and nights are pleasantly cool. The high zone Over 2,000 meters daytime temperatures can reach 30°C but nights are cold and temperatures can drop below zero. |
