Semuc Champey is a natural wonder in a beautiful setting. A series of turquoise pools flow into each other along the top of a natural bridge formed over the river. Set in a steep valley and surrounded by beautiful forests this is wonderfully peaceful place, perfect for a swim on a hot day. You can also hike up the steep slope for a good view of the pools. Entrance fee is Q 50. Dont forget your swimsuit. There are no banks or internet places, in Semuc Champey. Guides can be arranged in the small hut outside and will cost Q 50 per person. The tour will involve scrambling over rocks and wading through pools of water, at some points you even have to swim! You are given only a candle to light your way. Wear old clothes or swimming gear. You can borrow an old pair of shoes. Accommodation There are only two places at the moment where you can stay. Transport Lanquin Buses leave several times a day. The journey takes 45 minutes and costs Q 10. It is also possible to get a lift from the small pickups that drive up and down the road. you should pay the driver Q 10 per person. Walk to Lanquin A 3 hour walk 9 km will bring you to lanquin, just follow the dirt road. There are some short cuts, ask the locals first before you decide to take one. Make sure you have enough water with you. |
