Central America is the tiny strip of
land connecting Mexico in North
America with Columbia in South
America. it is made up of seven
small countries, Guatemala, Belize,
El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua,
Costa Rica and panama.

Originally populated by ancient
civilizations such as the Mayas and
the Aztecs, Central America was
"discovered" by the Spanish in the
16th century. The Spanish ruled
over much of Central America until
the rebellion in 1821. After
independence the Federal Republic
of Central America was formed,
although it did not include either
Belize or Panama. The Federation
however did not last long and
ended in 1838, after which each
country was on its own.

Central America has an overall area
of 521,499 square kilometres with
both Pacific and Caribbean coasts.
There is plenty to see and do in
Central America, beautiful beaches,
tropical jungles, old colonial cities,
ancient Mayan ruins and active
volcanoes.

Do not worry too much about the
horror stories that you hear. Most
of them happened when travelers
did not follow the basic safety
guidelines. They went to remote
places or walked at night. Things
are usually fine if you just use
common sense and if you not sure
always ask for local advice.
