The beaches of Poneloya and Las Ponitas are about 20 km from Leon with a good bus connection. They are good for a daytrip although you will probably want to stay for a few days. Las Pe?itas is a peaceful place with a small number of hotels and restaurants. The sea has strong waves, good for surfing but the currents can make it dangerous to swim.
