| Nicaragua Solentiname Archipelago |
The Solentiname islands are located in the south of Lake Nicaragua. The archipelagio is made up of 36 islands with 3 main islands. 2 of the islands, Mancarron and San Fernando provide accomodation for visitors. The main attraction of the islands is the peace and quiet and the beautiful nature. There is only electricity on the islands for a few hours each evening, usually from around 6 pm to 8 pm. there is no bank or internet. Sights There are numerous prehistoric petroglyhs scattered around the islands. The easiest ones to visit are on Isla San Fernando. Boat tours around the islands can be arranged at Hospedaje Buen Amigo on Isla Mancarron. Prices are negotiable but a 3 hour boat tour for up to 6 people will cost around US$60. There is a small museum on Isla San Fernando displaying local finds. Entrance fee US$1. The cultural events that take place randomly on the island are held here in the hall. The boat trip takes around 2 and a half hours and costs C$ 70. The same boat goes by Isla San Fernando and Isla Donald Guevora. If you want to travel between the islands at other days and times you can hire a private boat. Prices are negotiable. |
